Sarah Simmonds
Co-coordinator of Speak Up Hunter, Peer Researcher, Peer2Peer worker and Community Connections worker
Hi, my name is Sarah. I have a mild intellectual disability but it has not stopped me from doing things I am passionate about!
I am a co-coordinator of Speak Up Hunter. Which is a peer group run for and by people with intellectual disability living in the Hunter. To support each other to develop our voice and speak up!
I also work as a peer researcher on the peer support research team, Peer 2 Peer worker and have recently joined the Community Connections workforce at CDAH.
As a Peer Researcher, I recruited and interviewed other peers, worked on data analysis, created an interim report and am now working on the final report.
I have been volunteering for over 28 years now for various organisations like New Lake Peer Support, Stockton Centre, Healthy Change Challenge, Soul Café and CDAH.
I also like teaching Zumba and volunteering in the community (supporting people with disability and working in community building soup kitchens serving food) and I do do arts and craft, photography and travel.
